Full of vibrant color and striking depth, Hammons’ art captures the special hues hiding just beneath the surface. Micheal unearths the purples and reds in a morning sunrise over Palo Duro Canyon; the vast spectrum of color in a moon drenched orchard on a clear starry night; the vibrant greens and yellows of a birch-filled forest just before Fall. His most popular style is his spiritual series which he truly enjoys doing and is widely collected by many throughout this region. Whether it be abstract, illustration, plein-aire or realism, Hammons’ work is distinctive and full of detail with a great deal of passion and energy residing in each piece. An award-winning visual artist, Micheal is equally at home with watercolor, acrylic and oil. His favorite subjects are landscapes, urbanscapes architectural concepts and realism. When asked why he utilizes many styles and techniques, Micheal states his philosophy is that growing as a visual artist is a never-ending process. Unlike many artists whose work is easily recognizable, Hammons does not want to be stereotyped into a certain subject matter or media. He believes that, as a professional artist, it is exciting and educating to experiment with different creative processes, otherwise, an artist will never grow and the work will become dull and uninspired.
Hammons has held the title of President of Art Center of Williamson County since 2004 and has been an instructor there since 2000. He also teaches outdoor landscape painting workshops, a ladies night out once a month called "Art Uncorked" and classes for special needs clients in the Round Rock area. He is a member of Critique Circle and Williamson County Art Guild, NADA (North Austin Deaf Association). Since Micheal is deaf , he truly loves teaching and working with the Deaf Community. He is proficient in lip reading and is equally at home teaching deaf or hearing students.
